Collapsing The Imaginal Gap:
Old Self vs. Aligned Self
You have established your Coherent Aim: a clear orientation toward the reality you intend to create.
Through the Soul Connect Protocol, you have begun reconnecting with the deeper energy, feeling and meaning of your Soul, strengthening your access to inspiration, imagination, intuition, insight and emotional guidance.
Now we bring these together.
Code of Conduct
To conduct is to direct and bring different elements into coherent movement.
Your Code of Conduct is a way of becoming the conscious conductor of your character: allowing the innermost being of your true self to direct the beliefs, thoughts, emotions and actions through which you create and experience your life.
The intention is to bridge the Imaginal Gap between your Old Self and your Aligned Self: the character who lives your Coherent Aim as their reality.
OLD SELF ← THE IMAGINAL GAP → ALIGNED SELF
You will use your imagination to temporarily enter that reality first, rather than asking your current self to predict or invent who you need to become.
From inside that experience, you will look back toward yourself now and begin recognizing what is different.
The gap contains information. It can reveal the beliefs that are changing, the emotional capacities developing, the habits becoming natural, the standards rising, and the skills, knowledge and abilities you will need to develop.
Your Coherent Aim is showing you where you are going.
Your Code of Conduct helps reveal who you are becoming along the way.
The Character Inquiry Method
You will explore your Aligned Self through twelve interconnected aspects of character:
Beliefs
Thoughts
Emotions
Perceptions
Assumptions
Attention
Behaviors
Habits
Reactions
Standards
Commitments
Relationships
For each aspect, you will move through the same four stages.
1. Enter the Reality
You will first be guided back into the reality of your Coherent Aim fulfilled.
Don't try to solve how you got there. Allow yourself to imagine that this reality has already become familiar and experience it from within.
2. Reveal the Aligned Self
From inside that reality, you will be given a specific question designed to reveal something about the person living it.
Don't search for the smartest answer. Pay attention to what carries a feeling of recognition.
3. Notice the Contrast
You will then gently bring awareness back to your present experience.
Honestly recognize the difference between who you are being now and what you just recognized in your Aligned Self.
4. Identify the Development
Finally, notice what the gap may be inviting you to develop.
This could be a skill, knowledge, emotional capacity, practice, experience, system, habit or understanding.
You don't need to solve the gap yet.
Simply notice it and record what you discover.
Later, you will return to these discoveries to create your Capability Map.
01 — BELIEFS
Enter the Reality
Imagine your Coherent Aim has been real for long enough that you no longer question whether you are capable of living it. You have direct experience now that this life is possible for you.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What do you now know about yourself or what is possible that your current self still struggles to believe?
Notice the Contrast
Which belief you hold today feels most incompatible with that knowing?
Identify the Development
What experience, evidence, understanding, or repeated practice would help this new belief become something you know rather than something you merely hope is true?
What You Are Uncovering
Look for the fundamental ideas about yourself and reality that would make your Coherent Aim increasingly believable and natural.
This may reveal:
experiences you need to have
evidence you need to collect
assumptions you need to test
knowledge that would increase confidence
skills that would create genuine self-trust
Record what stands out.
02 — THOUGHTS
Enter the Reality
Step into an ordinary morning in the fulfilled reality. Nothing dramatic is happening. This life has become familiar.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What no longer occupies so much of your mind because you have learned how to handle it?
Notice the Contrast
What does your current mind repeatedly spend energy trying to solve, predict, control, or worry about?
Identify the Development
What capacity would make that mental pattern less necessary?
What You Are Uncovering
Look beneath the thought itself.
You may discover that a recurring thought pattern exists because something underneath it has not yet become sufficiently developed, understood or trusted.
This may reveal:
decision-making
planning
prioritization
emotional regulation
self-trust
financial competence
business competence
communication
You are beginning to recognize what would create greater spaciousness in your mind.
03 — EMOTIONS
Enter the Reality
Feel yourself living inside your Coherent Aim. Put the external achievements temporarily in the background and notice the emotional quality of your life.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What emotional quality has become familiar to you here that is not yet familiar enough in your life today?
Notice the Contrast
What emotional state most often interrupts your access to it now?
Identify the Development
What would you need to learn or practice to remain more available to that feeling when life becomes difficult?
What You Are Uncovering
You are looking for the emotional signature of your Aligned Self and the capacities that allow you to remain connected to it.
This may reveal:
emotional processing
nervous-system regulation
meditation
somatic awareness
boundaries
communication
forgiveness
self-trust
the ability to remain present with discomfort
Your Soul Connect practice becomes especially relevant here.
Feel before you formulate.
04 — PERCEPTIONS
Enter the Reality
Bring to mind something you currently experience as a problem or obstacle. Now see that same situation from the version of you whose Coherent Aim is already being lived.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What do you recognize about this situation from there that you cannot easily see from here?
Notice the Contrast
What interpretation are you currently making that keeps you responding from the Old Self?
Identify the Development
What knowledge, experience, or perspective would allow you to see this situation more accurately?
What You Are Uncovering
You are exploring the lens through which you interpret reality.
The circumstance may remain the same while your relationship to it changes completely.
This may reveal a need for:
greater perspective
financial education
business strategy
understanding human behavior
market awareness
communication skills
emotional maturity
experience that changes how you interpret uncertainty
Notice where a perceived obstacle may actually be pointing toward something you have yet to understand.
05 — ASSUMPTIONS
Enter the Reality
Imagine you have accumulated enough experience of support, opportunity, collaboration, ideas, resources and receiving that you no longer feel you must force everything into existence.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What do you now assume about your ability to create, receive support, and find a way forward?
Notice the Contrast
What are you currently assuming will be difficult, unavailable, unsafe, or unlikely?
Identify the Development
What would you need to become more capable of trusting without becoming passive or naïve?
What You Are Uncovering
Assumptions operate beneath much of what you consciously think.
Here you are discovering what your Aligned Self has learned to expect from themselves and their relationship with life.
This may reveal:
discernment
asking for support
receiving
networking
collaboration
selling
negotiation
opportunity recognition
trust grounded in competence and experience
Notice especially where your present assumptions cause you to control what your Aligned Self has learned to navigate.
06 — ATTENTION
Enter the Reality
Imagine watching an ordinary week in this fulfilled reality. Your attention is no longer constantly fragmented by everything you could be doing.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What has become clearly worthy of your attention, and what has become obviously unworthy of it?
Notice the Contrast
Where are you currently spending attention that produces very little movement toward your Coherent Aim?
Identify the Development
What skill or system would help you reliably distinguish signal from noise?
What You Are Uncovering
Your attention is one of your most valuable creative resources.
Here you are discovering where the Aligned Self directs energy because they understand what actually matters.
This may reveal:
prioritization
focus
productivity systems
project management
content strategy
AI workflows
delegation
meaningful metrics
needle-moving activities
boundaries with technology and information
The goal is not to do everything better.
It is to become increasingly clear about what deserves to be done at all.
07 — BEHAVIORS
Enter the Reality
Imagine I silently follow you through one ordinary working day in your fulfilled reality.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What is one behavior I would see repeatedly that would make it obvious you have become capable of living this life?
Notice the Contrast
Where is your current behavior inconsistent with that evidence?
Identify the Development
What do you need to learn or practice until that behavior becomes competent rather than aspirational?
What You Are Uncovering
Character eventually becomes visible through action.
Look for observable evidence of who you have become rather than abstract descriptions of who you would like to be.
Depending on your Coherent Aim, this may reveal:
writing
creating
selling
storytelling
presenting
communicating
leadership
making offers
filming
editing
networking
managing clients
practicing your craft
Ask yourself what another person could actually see you doing.
08 — HABITS
Enter the Reality
Imagine an ordinary Tuesday in this life. The aim is not being maintained through effort or motivation anymore.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What repeated practice has made this reality stable?
Notice the Contrast
What do you currently rely on motivation to do that this version of you has made automatic?
Identify the Development
What structure, environment, or routine would make that practice easier to repeat consistently?
What You Are Uncovering
Behaviors are what you do.
Habits are what you no longer need to decide to do.
Here you are looking for the repeated practices that make your desired reality increasingly stable and sustainable.
This may reveal:
a creative schedule
meditation
physical training
mobility or flexibility work
a sales cadence
weekly planning
financial review
content creation systems
sleep and recovery
relationship rituals
uninterrupted periods of deep work
Look for the practices that make alignment ordinary.
09 — REACTIONS
Enter the Reality
Imagine something genuinely difficult happens inside your fulfilled life: rejection, criticism, lost money, a failed launch, conflict, uncertainty.
The life hasn't collapsed. Your identity is intact.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What becomes possible in your response because you no longer interpret this event as evidence against yourself?
Notice the Contrast
What does your current self tend to do when a similar event threatens your identity or sense of safety?
Identify the Development
What capacity would allow you to stay responsive instead of reactive?
What You Are Uncovering
Character is often revealed most clearly when reality does not behave as expected.
You are discovering how your Aligned Self meets difficulty without turning feedback into identity.
This may reveal:
emotional regulation
resilience
conflict resolution
negotiation
communication
perspective-taking
somatic regulation
patience
adaptability
the ability to remain centered in uncertainty
The intention is not to eliminate difficulty.
It is to become increasingly capable of meeting it differently.
10 — STANDARDS
Enter the Reality
Look back from this life at what you once considered normal.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What are you surprised you once tolerated from yourself, your environment, your work, or your relationships?
Notice the Contrast
Where are you currently accepting something that your Aligned Self would naturally change?
Identify the Development
What skill, boundary, conversation, decision, or level of competence would allow you to raise that standard?
What You Are Uncovering
Standards reveal what you have normalized.
This isn't an invitation toward perfectionism. It is an inquiry into what has become inconsistent with the character you are becoming.
This may reveal:
boundaries
quality of work
communication
financial organization
physical health
your environment
relationship dynamics
promises made to yourself
quality of attention
professional competence
Notice where a higher standard may require greater capability, rather than greater force.
11 — COMMITMENTS
Enter the Reality
Imagine looking backward at the years that led into your Coherent Aim.
Reveal the Aligned Self
What did you eventually become unwilling to keep negotiating with yourself about?
Notice the Contrast
What meaningful commitment do you currently keep renegotiating according to mood, fear, or convenience?
Identify the Development
What would make you genuinely capable of honoring that commitment consistently?
What You Are Uncovering
Commitment reveals what matters enough to organize your life around.
Sometimes inconsistency is not a lack of discipline. Something underneath the commitment may need to change.
This may reveal:
clearer priorities
fewer commitments
accountability
better systems
a more supportive environment
emotional processing
stronger boundaries
a realistic schedule
deeper skill or competence
greater clarity about what actually matters
Look for the commitments that feel like devotion, rather than obligation.
12 — RELATIONSHIPS
Enter the Reality
Imagine yourself relating to other people from this fulfilled life without needing them to prove your worth, rescue you, approve of you, or make your vision possible.
Reveal the Aligned Self
How are you now free to relate to people differently?
Notice the Contrast
Where does your current way of relating still come from fear, approval-seeking, control, avoidance, or insecurity?
Identify the Development
What relational capacity would allow you to meet people from greater honesty, empathy, clarity, and strength?
What You Are Uncovering
Character exists in relationship.
Here you are discovering how your Aligned Self connects, communicates, contributes, receives and influences without losing connection with themselves.
This may reveal:
listening
empathy
communication
boundaries
intimacy
leadership
conflict resolution
negotiation
persuasion
storytelling
public speaking
sales
collaboration
Consider relationships not only with the people closest to you, but also with clients, customers, collaborators, audiences and communities connected to your Coherent Aim.
Your Code of Conduct
You have now explored your Aligned Self through the 12 dimensions of character.
Read through your discoveries slowly and notice:
what repeats
what carries the most energy
what feels immediately recognizable
what appears across several dimensions
what most clearly distinguishes your Old Self from your Aligned Self
Highlight or circle what stands out. Keep these discoveries available as we continue through Character.
What's Next?
Your Capability Map
Throughout this process, you have also recorded what you may need to learn, develop, strengthen or practice to become increasingly capable of living your Coherent Aim.
Next, we will return to these discoveries and organize them into your Capability Map: a practical map for collapsing the capability gap between your Old Self and your Aligned Self.
We will organize what you've uncovered into four areas:
Skills — What do I need to become better at doing?
Knowledge — What do I need to understand?
Capabilities — What qualities and abilities do I need to strengthen?
Systems — What structures will support the way I intend to live and create?
This Capability Map will give you a clearer picture of what to learn, what to practice, and what to develop as you move forward into Culture, Creation and Connection.
